How do we begin to describe our society in the past two decades, I have came to term it as a society gone gone insane, a deranged society where there is no longer respect or fear in the hearts of the young.
Today African, has thrown values, traditions and hospitality to the wind. A few decades ago in our African society, our core values were hard work and dedication that leads to success. Hospitality to strangers especially the ones who have come to help our people but today greed has thrown all these to the wind.
No longer is wealth measured by hard, No one cares to know the source of wealth these days. A young man of 19 is driving a car worth millions of dollars in Africa, no one cares how he got it. Even when they know he has no job or source of livelihood.
It is this greed of living beyond their means and being looked upon as an achiever that has driven many into the only means of fast money Kidnapping. Yes, Kidnapping has become a big floating business in Nigeria especially, while in other West African Countries like Ghana it is the Yahoo Yahoo boys who kills for ritual purpose to get money.
Today it is Reverend Father Christopher Ogaga, tomorrow who is the next victim? Kids have been kidnapped in the past and still being kidnapped, how do we stop this?
These gangs have thrown caution to the wind, how do one begin to explain the abduction of four missionaries from their accommodation in a remote part of Nigeria’s Delta State on October 13, 2017 and the final death of one of them at the hands of the kidnappers.
Ian Squire, 57, founder and chairman of the Christian charity Mission for Vision was among those kidnapped by the despicable greedy gang gone wild. He founded the charity to provide training and eye equipment for clinics in countries including Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Mozambique. And do any one still expect others to embark on mission work like this after the incident?
These despicable gangs have no boundaries, kidnapping a Priest is beyond what any one can ever fathom. The fear of God is no longer in them. “Touch not my anointed and do my Prophet no harm” but these ones have gone beyond redemption the greed for money has led them beyond listening or understanding.
It is time we speak on what is happening in our Nation and Continent. These gangs live around us. they are not invisible. When they kidnap, they take victims to locations that people live or know. When can’t we speak out against evil. It is time to stop these menace in our mist.
In March 2017, the notorious kidnapping King pin Solomon “popularly called, King Solomon” was arrested. What happened to him? How did his case go? It died off as usual.
Again, notorious Evans made the news but today his case went down the drain. This is a clarion call. No one is safe as long as it is a striving business for these gangs to hold an individual hostage and demand ransom. The time is now.
