I woke up this morning and all I see in my WhatsApp are messages of my country’s President Buhari using my region (The Niger Delta Region) oil asset as collateral for his recent loan from China.
A loan he is expecting to use to provide infrastructures for the Northern region, where he is from. According to these reports, failure to pay these loans would mean the regions wealth being taken over by China. From the oil rigs, the communities to the refineries. This according to those in the inside was what the President and his group of Northern cabals who have been ripping and stripping the region’s wealth for years came up with when they discovered they might lose their grip on it.
This is not news or it does not phase me out and as it is doing to many this is because I ask only a questions, are there no governors/Senators/House of Rep. members from this region? What are they doing, are they sleeping or just ignorant of what the President is doing?
The answer is clear to everyone, of course. No they are not sleeping or ignorant. It just does not bother them as long as they get their share of the wealth. The country and the region has suffered perpetual loss of lives and properties since it went into civilian rule but it had never bothered our Politicians because they are not affected. Innocent citizens are killed daily but yet all these leaders do is enrich themselves.
The love of money does not make them speak out against anything and it is a shame. I asked a question recently when the region or a state is destroyed with no citizen left, who will you represent? The folly of it all is the daft mentality of our youths in the face of these happenings. Recently I came across a post on face book about a house of reps leader from my constituency agitating to go to Senate, the youths were like praise singing and the rest about wanting her to go about how she gives money which is the normal stipend to young ones. I decided to comment by telling them not to be carried away by the stipend giving to them but to critically assess her achievements. What has she done or brought as infrastructural development in her years in the lower house that would warrant her elevation to the upper the upper house of senate.
Instead of the youth taking this as something to think of, I was attacked on face book. For months and months I was cyber bullied, her supporters, youths who have no jobs that she has given 10 thousand Naira, downloaded my photo and kept attacking my personality for months. So where is the justice of fighting for the next generation.
Greed is the key cause to all happening in our nation and continent today. No one should cry foul play because unless those who represent the people learn not to put themselves first before the masses, we can never get there. It is their pocket and their family. Their kids sent outside the country, homes bought in foreign countries and so on and so forth, while the poor suffer.
Its not the first and it won’t be the last, if Buhari and all Politicians can not learn from past leaders like Babangida, then they can never learn. With all the wealth stolen by Babangida, what is his fate today? Incarcerated in a wheel chair, showing that all is vanity upon vanity.
Using Niger delta region for a loan collateral is not enough, Buhari should sell the region for the way he is acting only signifies is level of illiteracy and bitterness as pointed out by Former President Good-luck Jonathan. He is bitter and angry and he exposes it through all his policies against the region but he should be aware that we are not the west, we are Africans. No one sells our ancestral lands or loan them or use them as collaterals. The land will speak and the blood in the land will fight.
