“And you think, he will be happy with your change of plans?’ her mum asked
“Stop asking her and tell her our story” Her sister said.
“Yes, the time is right Kaka, thank God the Squad is complete here” Dada said.
“Yes, Dada it’s the right time indeed” Kaka spoke with a distant look in her eyes.
“Mum, Aunty is there a secret in the family” Oma asked.
“It’s about our birth and life” their mum replied.
“Yes, their Aunt replied. When our mum was pregnant, everyone in the village thought she was sick with an incurable ailment, so your grand Pa went to consult a spiritualist and he was told that you grand Ma was pregnant with us. The spiritualist also told him that when the time comes for us to make a decision that concerns marriage we must seek spiritual knowledge or help about it” Kaka recalled dreamily
“Years went by after our birth, her sister Dada continued as if on cue. We graduated and I met your dad first and his best friend met your aunt through us and all they wanted was marriage. So, we informed our parents who went to seek a spiritualist about our future. The spiritualist told our parents, a time would come that we would need to make a decision in our marriage and would should think careful before speaking.”
“We got married and were happy with our spouses but after 5years without kids in our marriages, our mum went with us to see another spiritualist. This time we were told we would have kids but at a cost, your Aunt asked what the cost was? The spiritualist told us that the cost is insanity, our mum cried with us but accept to pay the price but your Aunt refused.”
“Yes, I refused to pay the price and it cost me a lot in life”. Their Aunt said.
“How? The squad asked together, now very interested in the story, for they have never seen their mum or aunt cry before.
“Yes, dears. Your aunt spoke too hasty and took the wrong decision not to have kids because she didn’t want to be insane” said their mum.
“Few months later, I got pregnant and had the triplets, then two years down, I had the twins. Months grew into years and everyone expected me to become insane but I was ok. When the triplets turned 15, we decided to seek help to prevent the insanity and that was when we got the shock of our lives”.
“Yes, everything said was not to be taken at face level. The insanity was the normal stress, worries, forgetfulness that happens due motherhood. Especially having twins or triplets” their mum concluded tearfully.
“So, you see. I hastily spoke, rejecting to have a baby because I thought I was trying to avoid paying the ultimate price of insanity, which was a very part and parcel of motherhood. It cost me my marriage and that is why I had to spend my time helping to raise you girls with your mum” Their aunt concluded in tears.
“This is why we are sceptical about spiritualist” their mum said, after a while
“But mum, I didn’t see a spiritualist. I said my horoscope” Olaochi protested.
“As long as it has to do with telling future occurrence its same to me” said her mum
“No, mum it’s not” Oma said
“We have been on this all the while, without even asking what this horoscope is all about” Didi said.
“How then did this all started then” asked their mum.
“Well we got ready this morning and found Olaochi lying on the couch not dressed” Oma said.
“All she told us was, she was not stepping out of the door for the next one week”
Everyone turned to look at Olaochi, who was sitting straight now but rubbing her fingers together, an action that always tells when she is upset.
“My horoscope shows a black cloud hovering outside this week and to avoid, this I was advise not to step out to avert it” Olaochi
“Is this all, really Olaochi” Oma asked.
“Ok, you see what I said about, prophecies” their mum said.
“Mum it’s not the same, I have been into my horoscope since high school and I have followed it and never gone wrong” she replied hotly
“Stop Ola, this is not real. This has gone too far” get up from that couch now or you will get what you deserve” Oma said getting really upset now.
“Please honey, we need to do something, you can be inside a whole week because you have a wedding. Your wedding in 2 days dear”. Her aunt pleaded
“Mum, aunty, I am done with this” She covers her eyes with the mask and lay back on the couch.
