Rest my case there. the frenzy on black Friday, oh boy! Its like everyone is out shopping even at the present freezing temperatures. It wasn’t fair that many have to be at the gates so early in order to storm into the shop of their choice but the stamping and the rush. Oh yeah! that alone drives me crazy every year.
“Mum! its black Friday why aren’t you going to the mall? my kids ask. Mall did they say mall? No way, year before last year I broke the heel of my favourite boots for the year trying to scrabble into a toy shop for my youngest who want a special toy for Christmas and guess what my husband saw the toy weeks later at same price I got pounded on my foot for a lesser price for our other son.
Hmmm! are you thinking what I am thinking, yes surprisingly its true and my darling husband laughed unending about it. Last year, I lost a pair of beautiful anniversary earrings at the mall still trying to get into Walmart to get a kitchen ware I thought is fair deal on black friday, was it a deal. Well, like my typical African mum of blessed memory would say, fill the blanks yourself. I am not bothering myself proving the answer and of course the husband had a fit laughing his heart off on it.
According to him why do I fall every year for the black friday sales gimmicks he calls it, maybe because he is a sales man with a car company thats why he sees what I and others who become part of black Friday shopping frenzy always. I do always end up buying something for everyone on that day. His favourite shirt, tie or tee shirt. A nice shoe I know he wanted and what the kids go crazy for and have kept dreaming of having. Though my wonderful family love these all gifts from my shopping spree on black friday but at last I ask weeks later, was it worth all the fight of the day because most of the prices remain same for a couple of weeks later.
My friend Tara believes, we can only get the best items on that friday. Really! ok maybe. This year I decided to be my calm self, take it cool babe I told myself. These aren’t kids any more. Youngest just turned eleven, so no rush. Everyone including my darling husband almost had a fit when the came downstairs at 7.30 am and I was pop-up at the breakfast table having my smoothie and going through some documents from the office. I almost choke on my drink when they all chorus the same words “mum/darling black Friday”
You need to see the shock on their faces and each one telling me what they expected me to buy this black Friday. Well calmly, I inform my family I was putting on one of my best winter coats ever. A gift I cherish so much cos it was from someone special (my darling husband) and I was not ready to get it destroyed on this years black friday plus my old bones was getting too stiff for pushing.
If a pin had dropped, the sound would have load like a bomb as my family opened their mouths speechless and that was when I picked my documents into my brief case and walk majestically to my car. Hmmm! I think my guy (darling hubby) and our precious four went to the mall after school, I saw all the items bought
on my dining table when I got home but my team were all sprawled on the sofa and floor tired.
Didn’t say a word but promise to share the juicy part of the buy with my beloved fans next time. So much for black friday. Its lights out for now, my laughing time.
