It is another great season, the spirit of celebration and fun is all over. Many of us just started shopping or trying to finish our shopping or still waiting till the last minute to complete our shopping.
Oh dear! do we have so much to buy at this moment? Yes! indeed we do, we spend and spend as if we are buying to last all year long if not just for Christmas but surprisingly not many can afford so much. Especially back home in Africa not because of poverty like many think because like I always educate my friends who are not from back home, Africa is not poor. Its our greedy leaders making life difficult for their Citizens due to greed.
I can never understand why a man would own so much and many are living in lack and want around.
A few days ago I was chatting with a sister on how tough things really are for many and this I saw in what many wish they could afford this Christmas back home and it really hurt me to see that even the basic of having the festive meal of a delicious rice with chicken stew is missing this Christmas in many homes.
It got me thinking, what are we giving this Christmas to others as a gift of love. Every year in my church since I relocated (leaving Africa), I have joined others to buy gifts of toys, books, clothes, shoes etc to kids in far away countries and continents like Africa.
Always when I do it, there i always a thought nagging at the back of my mind. Photos of grateful kids who received them are sent back by the missionaries to the church but at the back of my mind is the desire to tell everyone giving that the gifts are wonderful but these people might and will value meals for this season more.
Yes! that was the mission of one brave American of blessed memory (Rev. Dr. Yvonne Jackson Bassey). She knew this are always met these needs. Thanks to my friend are sister I shared this with, who have touched the life of some families this season.
All they need is love, that love is a warm meal which every family deserves this Christmas. An average $20 to $50 dollar is worth enough to provide a good meal for a family of six for 2 to 4 days this season. So I ask what gifts are you giving this season?
I have decided my kids are raising the toy monies to give which I am matching every dime equivalent price of the toy the sacrifice double to give. Yes! I know this would be a blessed Christmas indeed.
